York, Maine! Dan has officially signed a contract with a start date of August 8th so it will be a pretty quick turnaround for us moving from this contract to the next. Next week is his last week of work at the hospital here in Myrtle Beach and then we’ll be taking a quick trip to Savannah for a couple days, packing up, and driving back up North!
Finding housing is proving to be difficult (so if you know of anyone looking to rent short term & furnished let us know!), but overall everything has been falling into place so much easier this time around. Dan has an actual contact at the hospital who has been super helpful and who has actually given him his schedule for his first week already! Some of you may have heard more about the chaos of the start of this current contract. After having his pay cut twice, Dan’s start date was also pushed back repeatedly. He also found out his schedule one day at a time for the first week, among many other miscommunications. We’re so thankful that this looks like it will be a much smoother transition, and we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to lock down housing soon. So many family and friends have already been helping us get connected!
The next couple of weeks are going to be a whirlwind with Dan working overtime next week and preparing for the move, but we’re excited to have a few days set aside for fun with Dan’s mom and sister visiting this weekend! Our friend Sophie just visited last week (all the way from Toronto!) which was amazing, and while it feels a bit stressful to have so many plans this month, we’re thankful for how the visits are making us get out of the house to appreciate Myrtle Beach more before we leave.
We’ve really enjoyed the time that we had here and are sad to leave our church community (and the warmth!), but we are so excited to be closer to family for a little while. I’m also just really excited to get a New England Fall again 🙂 News from Dan’s current hospital has felt like a good confirmation of our choice to leave as well. They offered to renew his contract, but we knew early on that this hospital wasn’t the right fit.
We just found out that the hospital is actually looking to increase the number of patients a nurse is responsible for on his unit even more. It’s gotten to the point that many nurses are planning to quit if it is actually implemented. Please pray for both more accountability from the hospital management and for relief from the staffing shortage that seems to be everywhere, but very prevalent here.
MY FAVOURITE RECIPES LATELY:
Caprese Pizza

(from Half Baked Harvest, this is a pasta recipe that includes her pesto recipe!)
WHAT WE’VE BEEN TRYING:
We’ve tried a couple different subscriptions lately!
Hello Fresh – fun & a good way to learn new recipes…all in all a bit too expensive for us right now – check out our favourite Hello Fresh recipes
Winc – a wine subscription that we’ve done twice now and are enjoying…not the cheapest wine option, but not expensive either, especially because we try to enjoy it occasionally/sparingly!
WHAT WE’VE BEEN WATCHING:
We re-watched all the Jurassic Park/World movies in prep for the new one that came out last month!
We finally got all caught up on the Blacklist which we’ve been watching together for a few years now – since then we’ve started The Good Place!
For the past few months we’ve been on a murder mystery kick, and are on the hunt for some more! So far we watched & enjoyed Knives Out, Death on the Nile, and Murder on the Orient Express. Let me know if you have recommendations!
