Last update we had just arrived in Myrtle Beach, so that was about 2 months ago…whoops! With every passing week it felt like I had more and more to share which intimidated me. I’ll try to be brief (we’ll see how that goes) and maybe share some more in the coming weeks too.
Dan’s work has been going well overall; he’s starting to get the hang of working nights. He has very much enjoyed getting back to working as a nurse in general after his stint of unemployment. Honestly, the hardest part for him is the couple days after he’s finished his work days. His typical schedule at this point is 7pm-7am. Following his work days, he needs a recovery day to get back to a normal sleep schedule. At that point, he often feels stressed about only having a few days left of the week to get things done, have quality time, and fit in fun things. Some of that is normal obviously, but some of it seems exacerbated by working nights in particular. We’re both still figuring out how to navigate it.
I’ve been doing well, but struggling similarly to get used to the new dynamic. Oddly, my sleep schedule has been affected as well. I don’t like being home alone at night so I’ve found myself staying up waaaay too late most nights that Dan works. We’re confident though that as time goes on we’ll adjust more. We’ve already gotten a lot more comfortable with it than we were at the beginning.
I’m still working on figuring out what I want to do work-wise while we do travel nursing. For the short term, I’ve been doing DoorDash to make a little extra cash. It’s been fun and a good way to get to know the area better. I’ve also been working through an online TESOL course to get my certification. I’m hoping to potentially teach English as a second language online. Other than that, I’ve been having fun doing a lot more cooking again and trying my hand at gardening!
So far, we’ve had my dad’s side visit as well as our friends Jenny & Andrew from Montreal and my brother! All of their visits were so much fun. We loved getting to have some quality time and show them around Myrtle Beach. Within the next month we’re looking forward to visits from my friend Sophie and Dan’s mom & sister! Craziness! But we’re so excited 🙂
A couple more exciting updates:
This is already a bit long and if I got into much more it would be a short novel, so I’ll stop there. Be on the lookout for another newsletter in the next week or two. I’ll share more about looking forward to the end of Dan’s contract and what we’re thinking will come next!
