Time for a little update. We’ve been in Phoenix for just about two weeks now, and we’re loving it! Truth be told, the weather has left a bit to be desired, but we’ve successfully managed to escape the snow so we’re happy about that at least. We do love snow…in moderation…but New Hampshire and Montreal do not get snow in moderation.
The first weekend we were here it actually rained for about two and a half days straight. Our landlord, among others, commented that we must have brought good luck as they definitely needed the rain. We were not as excited, but more than anything we were just happy to finally be here and not be in the car anymore.
We love our new apartment; it’s more space than we need, but will be great for hosting friends and family who come to visit! I’ve also been enjoying the spacious kitchen, it’s smaller than our kitchen in Myrtle Beach, but has more counter space which I’m realizing is a tradeoff I’m willing to make. The cats have had a blast tearing around and skidding along the floors (no carpet!) which is entertaining to watch. We’ve also met some neighbours and found a great church already so that’s been a huge blessing!
I’ve been sick for a few days, so our exploring has been limited, but we’ve gone out a few times on Dan’s days off which has been a lot of fun. Phoenix is beautiful and there’s so much to do! We have a list going of recommendations from friends and family, so if you have any to add send them our way đŸ™‚ So far we’re hoping to go to the Phoenix Zoo, the Desert museum, Sedona, the Sonoran Desert National Monument, and Tucson! We’ve explored a bit of Old Scottsdale so far and are heading back there this week to check out some fun Christmas happenings.
Dan’s work has been going well, but this is looking like it will probably be his most difficult assignment yet. The hospital is huge and very understaffed (broken record, I know) which translates to a tough nurse to patient ratio. They pad that statistic by saying the nurses get help from LPNs, but that doesn’t end up helping too much when there’s only one LPN per one or two floors… All in all he’s excited to be back working days, even if that means busier shifts, and he’s feeling more confident about wanting to switch out of Med Surg to work on another unit in the future.
It’s been such a welcome break for both of us having Dan be on a regular sleep schedule now that he’s working days. It feels like we have much more time together and makes it so much easier to get more of a regular routine. Keep an eye out for more travel nursing content coming soon, including some posts written by Dan!
