Though much of what’s coming next is still up in the air, I thought I’d give a little update on what has been decided and what we’re hoping for with Dan’s next contract. It’s amazing how fast three months goes by, and how having to decide where we’re going next always seems to sneak up on us. Overall, we’re feeling great about all that we’ve been able to see and do while in Arizona, and after much procrastination we made some decisions about what our next move will be.
First off, we decided not to renew Dan’s current contract. Honestly, this was probably the most tempted we’ve been to renew and stay in one place for longer. We would love to be here for the desert spring and to get to enjoy the Arizona heat, but there have been a few negatives that made us lean towards leaving. In the end, the final push to decide to leave was that we’d like to be closer to family. So we won’t be staying in Arizona which means… cross-country road trip #3 is coming up quick!
We are set to leave Phoenix on March 10th and start our long trek back east, most likely to New Hampshire. We would both really like to have at least a week in New Hampshire before we head to wherever we’re going next, but depending where the next contract is that plan may have to change. We’re just starting to plan out the road trip, but until we know where the final destination is we’re a bit limited in our plan-making.
Dan has officially begun working with a new travel nursing agency which was a difficult decision to make, but we both feel good about it and are hopeful that they will help us find a great next contract! While Dan finishes up the onboarding process with the new agency, he’ll keep working with his first agent/agency. We’ve come to realize that it’s quite normative for travel nurses to have multiple agencies that they work with at a time, so he may continue with both as long as they’re each onboard. His new agent, after Dan told him he would still be working with his first agent at least for finding this next contract, basically said “of course, every travel nurse works with multiple agencies.” So that made us feel a bit better.
At this point, Dan’s original agent has submitted him to a few different positions, but we haven’t heard back with any offers yet. We’re hoping for a start date sometime around April 1st and as for location, we’re hoping for somewhere along the East coast. We’ve started with North and South Carolina, but may cast a wider net to include Georgia, Florida, and potentially Louisiana. We’ve decided to prioritize finding a day shift contract so that may mean we need to be a bit more flexible when it comes to location.
So for now, we’re working on preparing for the move, finding Dan’s next contract, and planning out our next big road trip. In the meantime, my cousin has been visiting and my brother will be visiting at the end of the month which will be a lot of fun. We’re planning to take him to the Grand Canyon! While my cousin has been visiting we’ve made it out to do a ton of sightseeing including the most incredible drive up to Theodore Roosevelt Lake and Tonto National Monument. Unfortunately, Dan had to work that day so it was just her and I, but we all made it to the Phoenix Zoo on one of his days off.
Once Dan has his next contract, I’ll update this post with the details! Check back in the coming weeks for the big reveal!
